Insane In Sane, Sane In Insane

The significance of 'Upendra' in my life as a mentor, director, movie, album etc will be written in a separate post. However, under this post I would like to overview his previous directorial ventures and give an insight as to how it all makes sense when re-arranged for convenience. Firstly, let us consider the astronomy - astrology as a notation or legend. Upendra has succesfully completed 8 brilliant movies as a captain with a remarkable track record. His 9th venture as a director is 'Upendra 2'. By summing up all the movies, we can take it as nine. Lets try to assign a sign to each one of the movie. Below is the list after assigning the signs to movie names.

Surya - Upendra 2

Chandra - A

Mangala - Swastik

Budha - Upendra 1

Guru - Tharle Nan Maga

Shukra -Super

Shani - Operation Antha

Rahu - Om

Ketu - Shhh..

 Note : Movie names are not arranged in the order of their release date.

Now, Ketu for the scary and thrilling curves in storyline viz Shh movie. A nerve chilling horror story for Indian audience.

Rahu for the infinite and drastic change in the personality of the hero. The situations that he comes across, it is nothing but Om.

And everyone knows the strict and disciplinary Lord Shani's might, he punishes everyone irrespective of their wealth and age. This is a mother node for the movie Operation Antha.

Shukra is a sign of wealth & valor, a progress in all aspects. And obviously it goes for the winner of Karnataka State Film Award for Best Film i.e Super.

Guru is such a planet that governs the ideas & creativity. Even knowledge can be included, gives a wisdom in understanding the good and bad. Therefore, this sign goes completely goes to Tharle Nan Maga.

Budha being a versatile planet with acceptance to immediate changes, the twist and turns will go to Upendra 1. It rules all the required aspects of life like artists , teachers , businessmen etc.

Mangala a fierce planet will be appropriate for Swasthik, very difficult to digest the events that occurs throughout the movie.

And Chandra is sign full of fluctuations and mood swings, and also a ruler of love. Because of these reasons, this sign will go to the movie A.Sun is everything, we exist because of sun. And we are expecting a flawless reflection of the characteristic of a sun. If you want to see the "Neenu" then sun has to be there. Due to this expectation we can allocate the sun sign to Upendra 2 | Uppi2. Perhaps an astrologer can explain this relation in more lively way, But I'm not an astrologer I just gave away what I knew.

A second dimension to the same assumption is to chalk out a map of same terrain with different vegetation. Now, say we have two characters here.One is more yogic in nature, emphasis to philosophy and culture. And another one is a weirdo with different thinking. So the conversation between these two characters tells the movie names in good way.

Yogi making "shhh" sound to silence the weirdo.

 

Weirdo asks if yogi is chanting "swastik".

 

 Yogi says that he is chanting "OM".

 

Weirdo appreciates it and says "Super".

 

 

Yogi gets irritated and calls weirdo as "Tharle nan maga".

 

Yogi alters the heads to make weirdo understand about Yogic lifestyle.
But the yogic body with weirdo's head says "Upendra".

 

Finally, there is a fusion between the weirdo and the yogi.
A super imposition. Together they say "Upendra 2".

There is maturity sometimes and there is craziness as well. And this time I'm hoping to see a new blend that bridges the two generations. I wish the best to Uppi and his team. Very eager to see a philosophical tale. Vikrama Bhethala pattern must be continued.

Ulidavaru Kandanthe

Ulidavaru Kandanthe | ಉಳಿದವರು ಕಂಡಂತೆ

Watched Ulidavaru Kandanthe movie in a cinema hall. And I shall state the best five and worst five things about the movie from my perspective. And try to justify the worst and enjoy the best.

[ Best Five ]=

 

1. Cinematography is really excellent. You can watch the entire movie without any sound. Almost an extended show reel of brilliant technicians.

2. Audio Mixing & Sync sound adds more realism. With a quiet audience its a feast to ears. Very well mastered. The Re-recording is really awesome.

3. An effort to portray the essence of Malpe culture is exuberant & such a lively performance on-screen. Visual elements and the method of presentation is stunning.

4. Color grading of the movie is really commendable. Initially it starts with cooler tone and gradually transits to warmer tone. All lush green montages are very well balanced. Especially the blades of grass from low angle shots.

5. Text overlay balances the technical richness without down-grading by a static fill. The typography at every chapter's beginning is apt for the theme. No flashy gimmicks.

Overall : Everything outside of the paper has been rendered very well. An excellent job. Certain sections of the movie are too good to be seen over & over again. Special scene would be the one where "Richi gets up in an auto to see Regina".

[ Worst Five ]=

  1. Double line subtitles for such a huge screen is a mess. Lot of mistakes were there in the subtitle stream. With such intense lines as lyrics, it must have also been subtitled. At some points the video with Statutory warning + English subtitles + Kannada Subtitles, it was a disaster to the beautiful shot composition. Usage of @<>.. degraded the subtitles. A huge distraction. Spoiled a good film viewing experience.

2. Before the entry of Richi, he will be smoking a joint/cigarette with a thinner girth. As soon as he kicks the door open, he will be having a cigar in his mouth. It could have been consistent. And a typical revolver does not pop-out the shells. Blood packets are vividly seen & little more caution could've been taken.

3. Too much of repetitive scenes. The recap to show the different dimensions of a single event was an ineffective way of utilizing run-time. I wonder why the editing unit didn't question about this. And when the dimension changes they could've used 2 cameras to capture the same action. Rather than running through the dialogs all over again. Cuban story became stale by the time it reached the climax. 

4. Most of the beautiful songs were butchered with a negotiable editing. Linear play to emphasize the notoriety of Richi was a big thumbs down. There were more than 5 situations to add vibrance to his negative shade. Emptying the arsenal with the boat sequence was not quenching enough.

5. Dropping the 'Regina' part & retaining 'Pulp Fiction' style of presentation could've saved more than 20-30 mins. Not much impact or sense was made by that character. Glimpses of 'SinCity' visuals with Red color prominence, was a cliche. The crow part of the movie is a bit-off. At coastal region, its quite common to hear the raucous of crows, which feed on fishes. Must have been negligible for a person from that region.

Overall : Very disappointing dialogs. Not much weightage whatsoever. The work on paper such as story, script, screenplay, dialogs, all these could have been a little better. Very much disappointed with the story telling part of the film.

Regarding the acting 'Thara' has done her best without even uttering a word. Splendid performance, takes a greater gift to grab hold of the shirt of a co-artist and look at him in the eye say "Where had you gone for so long my son". And the kid "democracy", he has done his best being himself. Fills my heart with innocence.


 
 
I would personally like to congratulate the technical team of UK for their sincere effort for rending such a great audio and visual treat. And Rakshit Shetty, you have assembled a great team. Wonderful direction. I could not take home any memorable "Dialog" and that's the missing ingredient.

Please release the movie in Blu-ray after it completes 100 days. so that we can check the quality of TV, Sound System, Headphones.. etc..
